JONATHAN MCPHILLIPS

Jonathan McPhillips Demo – March 2021 Monthly Meeting

Our March 2021 monthly meeting will feature a demo by the amazing artist Jonathan McPhillips!

Our monthly meetings are always on the third Tuesday of the month. So this meeting will be on Tuesday, March 16th, 2021, starting at 6:30pm. Usually from 6:30-7:00pm we talk about the upcoming events and shows. The demo tends to start around 7pm.

All active BVAA members should be getting our Zoom link via email. Please let us know if you do not have the Zoom link. We will also record and post the session for those who aren’t able to make it on Tuesday.

Since we’ll be recording it, you can watch the first time through, ask questions as he paints, and then try it yourself with all your supplies ready after that, from the video!

Here’s the scene he’ll be painting:

Details for the 2021 Anything Goes photography show –

9th Annual Anything Goes Photography Show – 2021

The Blackstone Valley Art Association is sponsoring the 9th Annual Anything Goes Photography Show – this show is open to the public! All styles of cameras and cellphone images are warmly welcome! This will be a VIRTUAL SHOW this year for health reasons.

When:
February 2021

Where:
Virtually! The images will be posted on our BVAA Facebook page and YouTube channel

Participation is open to the public. Each participant may exhibit up to three photos. These will be judged for cash prizes.

Entering the Show
The entry fee for the main show, open to all styles of photography, is $15/3 pieces for BVAA members and $20/3 pieces for non-members. The theme is wide open. You can submit a portrait, landscape, still life, abstract, seascape, you name it. Your imagination is the limit.

Photos can be any size. Larger images are better in general in terms of seeing them clearly on large screens, but send whatever size JPG you can create.

All photography must be family friendly. Please also check out our Show Terms and Conditions

All photos which are entered are included. There is no “pre-selection” process where some are accepted and others are rejected. If you submit artwork, and it is family-friendly, it will be part of our show. You can have your photo listed with a price for sale, or you can have it Not For Sale if you wish.

Submissions
To submit your entries use our BVAA Online Submission Form. The deadline to submit is midnight on Sunday, February 21, 2021. Work must be emailed to us by midnight EST on that date. All work which is submitted will be displayed (as long as it is family-friendly). You can use submissions@bvaa.org for the email. If you mistakenly email it to one of our other addresses that’s fine, they really all go to the same place.

If you create your art by doing something unusual by using film cameras or atypical techniques, please let us know in the submission form. Show visitors love to learn about how you created your art.

Judging

The person doing the judging is talented artist Matt Reynolds. Cash prizes are based on the entry fees, so the more entries we get, the more / larger prizes we give out. In general, the BVAA organizes each show so all incoming entry fees go out to the winners of the show plus a judge stipend.

Learn more about Matt Reynolds and his photography here:

https://www.mattreynoldsphotography.com/

Opening Reception
The opening reception for the show is online on Friday, February 26th at 7pm EST. Invite family and friends – all are welcome! There is also a photography talk with Matt Reynolds on Saturday, February 27th at 5pm. This is where the winners will be announced. Contact us for the Zoom logon information for the photography talk. Information on both events can be found here:

The space use is kindly donated to us by ValleyCast, the community outreach department of Open Sky Community Services. Open Sky uses this space for special-needs client activities during daytime weekdays. They allow the BVAA use of the space – and its gallery walls – on evenings and weekends. We actively support their inclusive mission. All are welcome to all of our events and activities!
