The Blackstone Valley Art Association is sponsoring the 8th Annual Anything Goes Photography Show – this show is open to the public! All styles of cameras and cellphone images are warmly welcome!
When: January 4 to February 21, 2020
Where: BVAA Alternatives Uxbridge Community Gallery 5 South Main Street Uxbridge, MA 01569
There is a TON of free parking immediately next to this building. It is fully and easily handicapped accessible.
Participation is open to the public. Each participant may exhibit up to two photos. These will be judged for cash prizes.
Entering the Show The entry fee for the main show, open to all styles of photography, is $15/2 pieces for BVAA members and $20/2 pieces for non-members. The theme is wide open. You can submit a portrait, landscape, still life, abstract, seascape, you name it. Your imagination is the limit.
Photos can be any size. That being said, please contact us first if you plan on bringing anything over 20″ x 30″ in size. We need to arrange for space for those separately.
All photography must be family friendly and properly wired for hanging. Our hanging system does not work with saw-tooth or triangle hangers. 3M stick-on hangers are notorious for falling off – please don’t use those. If you are new to preparing photography for shows, read our page on How to Mat and Frame a Photo. Please also check out our Show Terms and Conditions
All photos which are entered are hung. There is no “pre-selection” process where some are accepted and others are rejected. If you submit artwork, and it is family-friendly and wired properly, it will be part of our show. You can have your photo listed with a price for sale, or you can have it Not For Sale if you wish.
Submissions To submit your entries use our BVAA Online Submission Form. The deadline to submit is midnight on Saturday, January 4th, 2020. Work must be dropped off by Saturday, January 4th, 2020 at 3pm. All work which is brought in will be hung (as long as it is properly wired and is family-friendly).
In the past we had a separate section for film images. This year, we will have them included in the main show judging. If you do something unusual by using film cameras or unusual techniques, please let us know in the submission form. Members love to learn about those things.
Also on exhibit will be works from individuals who participated in the Crossroads Digital Media Arts program where they learned about photography and digital imagery manipulation this past Fall.
We will hang the show on Wednesday January 8th.
Judging Judging will be done by David Long. David is an award-winning photographer who will also be giving a talk on Landscape Photography on Jan 19 2020:
This Uxbridge gallery is supported in part by BVAA member dues, the Massachusetts Cultural Council, and by ValleyCAST. The space use is kindly donated to us by ValleyCast, the community outreach department of Open Sky Community Services. Open Sky uses this space for special-needs client activities during daytime weekdays. They allow the BVAA use of the space – and its gallery walls – on evenings and weekends. We actively support their inclusive mission. All are welcome to all of our events and activities!
Our Annual Holiday Party for 2019 will be held on Tuesday, December 17th from 6-9pm. We’ll start from 6:00-6:30pm with our discussion of the group’s upcoming events, and then go into the party time.
Note we are having this year’s party AT A RESTAURANT so we can fit us all. It’ll be in a private room so we can talk, laugh, and have fun!
Bob Evans is bringing in a delightful decorated sheet cake for dessert!
The total cost for the evening including tip and tax and everything is $27 each. For members, the BVAA will subsidize part of the cost so that the per-person cost for members is $20 each. Please RSVP for yourself for now. Once we’re sure how many members we have attending, we’ll then open it up to guests. The guest would pay the full $27.
You can drop off cash or check at the gallery any Saturday, you can use PayPal online to info@bvaa.org, or you can snail-mail a check to:
BVAA PO Box 136 Whitinsville, MA 01588
Please make sure to email in your reservations to us by FRIDAY DECEMBER 6th MIDNIGHT so we know what room we have for guests. Once we know the member count we’ll put out the call for guests if we still have room. Please be timely. The restaurant need time to plan out their meals!
Yankee Swap Our BVAA Holiday Parties feature a fun Yankee Swap gift exchange. You can participate or not participate as you wish. If you’d like to join in this fun project, bring a gift-wrapped gift of $10 or less in value. The way we do it is we put all the wrapped gifts in a pile. We hand out numbers so every person gets a number. Whoever is number 1 chooses a gift, unwraps it, and shows it to the group. Person 2 then goes and unwraps a gift. They can keep it or swap it with anybody else who has a gift out. It keeps going until the end, at which point person 1 can choose anything they want. It’s a lot of fun :).
NOTE: This class will focus on still life. Bring what you’d like to paint and your light and Carol will see you there!
Oil paint has been the medium of choice for a wealth of famous painters. Leonardo da Vinci. Claude Monet. Pierre-Auguste Renoir. Paul Cezanne. There is just something spectacular about the beauty of oil paint which captures the eye and the imagination.
Whether you’re a raw beginner or an experienced painter, this oil painting class will take you to the next level. It’s full of personal hands-on advice and a warm, welcoming atmosphere!
Talented painter Carol Arnold teaches a monthly oil painting class at the BVAA Alternatives Uxbridge Community Gallery! Carol is a member of Richard Schmid and Nancy Guzik’s Putney Painters! All levels of painters are welcomed with open arms. The focus will be on drawing, edges, values and color. These are areas which a beginner can practice and an advanced student can hone to perfection.
Carol makes these classes fun and inspiring, while supporting you to the next level of your growth!
This monthly class usually meets on the first Monday of every month from 6-9 pm. We are experimenting with other days to see how they work.
Cost: The maximum class size will be 10 students, to ensure plenty of hands-on time for each one. If there are only 1 or 2 students registered for a class, the class will be cancelled. If there are 3 or 4 students, each student pays $20/hr for the class = $60 total. If there are 5-10 students, each student pays $15/hr for the class = $45 total.
Invite your friends! Share the news! The more students which attend, the less you pay and the more fun it is to learn from each other.
