Every two months we rotate the show at the Milford TV Station. The drop-off for the upcoming July-August 2017 show on the theme of “Dog Days of Summer” is Thursday, July 6th from 6-8pm. We do these on the last Thursday of the month preceding the show.
** NOTE NOTE THE DATE CHANGE DUE TO CONSTRUCTION AT THE STATION – WE ARE A WEEK POSTPONED **
This date is also the reception (and take down) for the existing “Floral” show. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend!
Please bring food or drink to share!
The Milford TV Station is at 138 South Main Street.
The Milford people do the labels and hanging for us, so there is no need to use our online submission form to indicate what you’re bringing. Simply be sure to label the back of each piece with its title, your name, and the price. Milford does not take any commission on sales.
This show is for BVAA members only and is free to participate in. Most artists bring in three items but if you have more that’s great! The items can be any size or shape – Milford has a great hanging system which can accommodate pretty much anything.
Come on out! Invite family and friends! The Spring Show reception for the BVAA Spring Show is on Sunday, June 11th from 1pm to 3:30pm. All are welcome!
Here are a few photos from the hanging of the 2017 BVAA Spring Show! Mark your calendar to come out to the opening on Sunday, June 11th from 1pm – 3:30pm! It’s at the Blackstone Heritage Corridor center in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
Are you interested in photography? Curious what a f-stop or aperture setting is? Want to know how to make those pretty, fuzzy backgrounds on photos so the flowers or faces really pop? Interested how to bring a photo from “that’s nice” to “WOW!” with just a few simple changes?
Al Weems is here to get you on your way.
Al is a talented, award-winning professional photographer with countless credits to his name. We’ll be doing an outing at Tower Hill Botanic Garden in Boylston, Massachusetts. That way, rain or shine, we’ll have a wealth of things to take photos of.
Most area libraries offer half-price admission cards. We can arrange to car-pool from a nearby location so that we stack up those half-price cards per carload.
The session is free for all BVAA members. Any non-BVAA member who wishes to join us would pay a $5 instructor fee in addition to the entry to Tower Hill.
IMPORTANT NOTE!!! We are still determining the date and the time of day time of day we’ll meet up. Regular hours are 10am to 5pm. The Twigs Cafe is open from 11am to 3pm.
Contact us if you’re interested in joining us! We will post the details shortly.
It’s summer, and that means it’s time for the Blackstone Valley Art Association “Show of Hands” open art show! All artists are welcome to participate in this show, whether or not you’re a member of the BVAA.
This show is a counterpoint to our January photography show. While the January show is all about photography – both digital and film – this show here is all about the other arts. Oil painting, Acrylic painting. Watercolors. Pastels. Charcoal. Sculpture. Pottery. Fabric. Art Quilts. If you use your hands to make it, it’s fair game for the show! No photography, please – that has its own show in January.
The show is held at the Alternatives’ Community Gallery, 5 South Main Street, Uxbridge, MA.
Submissions:
Submit using our online form – BVAA Online Submission Form – the fee to participate is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. You can submit up to 2 pieces for that fee. The deadline to submit is August 7, 2017 at midnight EST.
Drop Off of Works:
Drop off at the Uxbridge Gallery is from Monday, August 7th through Wednesday, August 9th from 10am to 3pm. Note that all hanging works need to be properly wired. Of the two artworks submitted, only one can be 16×20 or larger. The other must be smaller than that size. All works must be family-friendly. There is no photography in this show – our photography-only show takes place in January. All skill levels are welcome to participate. This show is perfect for first-timers!
The show will be hung Thursday morning, August 10th, at 10am.

May is traditionally the end of the meetings year for the Blackstone Valley Art Association! We don’t have meetings in June, July, or August so members are free to go paint or photograph. Then September we begin up fresh with newly elected officers and we pay our dues for the coming year. So our schedule is sort of like the school year.
The 2017 Pot Luck Party is on Tuesday, May 16th, 2017! It is at our normal meeting place – the Northbridge senior center.
We will be bringing in main dishes of pizzas and salads. We’re asking members to bring in an appetizer or dessert to share. Please let us know at INFO@BVAA.ORG what you’re bringing so we can coordinate. Also, let us know if you’re planning on attending so that we can figure out how much to get from the restaurant. In the past the price per person was about $12. We’ll know the price for this year once we get a headcount.
Before the dinner, we’ll be having our election of fresh officers for the coming 2017-2018 year. Those officers will begin their duties in September.
Let us know if you have any questions!

Northbridge Senior Center
20 Highland Street
Whitinsville, MA 01590
Our monthly meetings are open to the public and are supported in part by grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
Our monthly meetings traditionally begin with about a half-hour of reviewing upcoming events and sharing member news. Then we go into the actual demo or workshop.
