Al Weems is a professional photographer with decades of experience in portraits and photography. He knows how to take an image from ‘typical’ to ‘exceptional’. Come on out for a hands-on workshop on capturing that perfect selfie – just in time for the 2018 BVAA Teen Selfie Show!
This can be done either with a cellphone or with a standalone camera.
Note that Al’s talents lie in creating a powerful portrait which showcases the individuality of the person. He traditionally works with standalone cameras. He will not be teaching how to use the cellphone as much as how to pose, light, and work with the scene to create a stunning portrait image. There will be others present who can help with cellphone basics, if necessary.

Street photography isn’t standing in the middle of the road and taking photos of the street! That would be dangerous :). Street photography is about documenting life on the street. The mom taking her kids to the pizza place for lunch. The elderly widow heading to the coffee shop to sit and read. Where are people going? What are they thinking? Street photography catches a glimpse into other lives. Bring your cameras and cellphones or just come to participate as a person-on-the-street! All are welcome.

What’s involved in taking a lovely portrait? How does color differ from black and white in bringing out a personality? How does lighting, background, and other details make a difference? Come play with faces in this fun workshop! Bring your camera or cellphone – if you have neither, that’s fine too. The more faces the better for this workshop!

Light is the key to photography. Just how does light impact the photos you are taking? What happens when you use incandescent light, fluorescent light, or LED lights? How do they compare with sunlight? Bring your camera or cellphone and we’ll play with real life examples. If you don’t have a camera, that’s fine, just come and learn!

Macro photography is all about appreciating the small things in life. The details. It draws one in to being mindful about the tiny items which might otherwise go unnoticed. The eyes of a bumblebee. The details of a flower petal. The curve of a watch gear.
If you’ve got a cellphone or a camera, bring it along to play. If you don’t, that’s fine! You can watch, learn, and enjoy the experience. All are welcome, and it’s free!
