    Winter Magic Dropoff

    Every two months we rotate the art show at the Milford TV Station. We arrange our drop-offs on the last Thursday of the month preceding the show. THIS IS THE EXCEPTION! To avoid the holiday insanity, we push the December drop-off to the first week of January. Therefore, the drop-off for the upcoming January-February 2019 show on the theme of “Winter Magic” is Thursday, January 3rd, 2019 from 6-8pm.

    “Winter Magic” is anything at all having to do with winter. Explore the possibilities!

    Anything Goes Submission Deadline

    The entry fee for the main show, open to all styles of photography, is $15/2 pieces for BVAA members and $20/2 pieces for non-members. The theme is wide open. You can submit a portrait, landscape, still life, abstract, seascape, you name it. Your imagination is the limit.

    You’ve probably heard the advice from countless galleries. Shows work well when they involve a series of related images. What are some ways to do that? This workshop involves talks from Mike Zeis (shown above), Bob Evans, James Hunt, and perhaps a few others. Learn more about how to work with a series.

    Stephen DiRado Photography Alzheimer’s Series

    We have a special photography seminar lined up for Sunday, February 17th, 2019. Talented photographer Stephen DiRado will come in to discuss his series he created documenting his father Gene’s descent into dementia / Alzheimer’s disease.

    Stephen has been featured on NPR and in the Washington Post.

    Monthly Meeting - Feb

    Since February can sometimes be snowed out, we use this month for a session which is casual. We all bring in our latest works or images and then offer each other suggestions and advice. You can bring the works in in person or bring JPG images on a thumb drive for us to view on a laptop. You can bring in painting or photography, drawings or sculptures. Whatever you wish! It’ll be fun, relaxed, and conversational.

    Carbon Copies Deadline

    The Blackstone Valley Art Association is sponsoring a delightfully fun art show all about fakes, forgeries, and parodies!

    Carbon Copies – Imitation is the Sincerest Form of Flattery

    This show is for all BVAA members to participate in. The idea is to find a famous painting and then duplicate it! You can duplicate it exactly or you can add your own fun twist to it. You can paint a version of a Roger Fenton photo. You can stage a photo which resembles a Vermeer painting. Maybe you paint Mona Lisa as a cat.

    The sky’s the limit!

    The award-winning, amazingly talented Al Weems will guide us through best use of flash in photography. Bring along any flashes you have to best learn your equipment! This workshop will focus on on-camera flashes.

    High Key / Low Key Photography 1-3pm
    You’ve seen the images. Bright whites. Darkest blacks. Play with these extremes of photography.

    Tower Hill Daffodil Field Trip

    10am - 3pm Tower Hill Botanic Garden 11 French Drive Boylston, MA 01505

    Breathe in the fresh spring air! The BVAA will be taking a field trip to the Tower Hill Botanic Garden on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019. The rain date is Wednesday, April 24th. Their famous “field of daffodils” should be in peak bloom at that point. This trip was brainstormed by Laura Cenedella – thank you so much Laura for the idea!

    The idea is to paint / photograph from 10-12, take a break for lunch, and then go again from 1-3. Of course if you just want to come for a portion of the time you’re welcome to!

    Impasto Painting at River Bend Farm

    Our very own talented artist Laura O. Cenedella will lead us through a workshop on impasto painting at River Bend Farm in Uxbridge! Impasto involves using very thick paint – often by adding in a gel or other material – to create a raised 3D effect with the paint. All are welcome – come on out!

    Celebrating Uxbridge

    The workshop will involve Carol Frieswick’s book and card set “The Artist’s Muse – Unlock the Door to Your Creativity”. There are bunches of cards with all sorts of challenges and prompts to get you thinking out of the box with your art. We’ll have watercolors, acrylics, pastels, paper, and brushes on hand. If you have a preferred medium feel free to bring along your own paints, pastels, pencils, or camera. We will tackle the creative challenges with whatever we like to work with. Or, heck, if you normally work in one media, try changing over to another to see how it goes!

    Every two months we rotate the art show at the Milford TV Station. We arrange our drop-offs on the last Thursday of the month preceding the show. The drop-off for the upcoming November-December 2019 show on the theme of “Small Works” is Thursday, October 24th, 2019 from 6-8pm. Normally we do the last Thursday of the month but this October the last Thursday is the 31st, and people want to be home for that.

    “Small Works ” is anything small and ideal for gift-giving. Explore the possibilities!
