Milford TV Art Show – Mar-Apr 2017 – Animals

Every two months we rotate the show at the Milford TV Station. The drop-off for the upcoming March – April 2017 show on the theme of “Animals” is Thursday, February 23rd from 6-8pm.

This date is also the reception (and take down) for the existing “Winter” show. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend! It’s a great time to meet the artists, view local art, and learn about the art opportunities in the region.

For participating artists, please bring food or drink to share!

The Milford TV Station is at:
138 South Main Street
Milford, MA

This is a plaza with a D’Angelo’s, a Hair Unlimited Salon, and Milford Hardwood.

The Milford people do the labels and hanging for us, so there is no need to use our online submission form to indicate what you’re bringing. Simply be sure to label the back of each piece with its title, your name, and the price. Milford does not take any commission on sales.

If you can’t make it to the party just drop off your works any time during the week that they’re open. Call ahead to check the hours!

This show is for BVAA members only and is free to participate in. Most artists bring in three items but if you have more that’s great! In general, the items can be any size or shape – Milford has a great hanging system which can accommodate pretty much anything. That being said, for this particular show it’s small works for quick sales!

We hope to see you there – and spread the word!

2017 Sutton Art Festival – June

Mark your calendar for the Third Annual Sutton Art Festival being held on Saturday, June 3rd, 2017!

The show is open to the public from 10am to 3pm. BVAA members should aim to get there around 9am to help set up the tents. We will have two tents and ten panels, so bring 3-4 pieces each. Make sure they’re wired for hanging and they are fully labeled on the back. No need to tell us up front the titles. You can put a business card in the frame if you wish.

There’s no fee to participate. Our standard 20% commission on sales is waived if you hang out and lend a hand!

If you’re planning on hanging out we suggest you bring a chair and a bottle of water. They will have food available there for purchase. We definitely can use help with people hanging out and watching over the tents!

The show is held on the Sutton Common. To find this, look up the First Congregational Church at 307 Boston Road, Sutton MA. This is immediately on the common. There is ample parking in their parking lot.

The festival is held rain or shine. They have an indoor option – but the weather is looking lovely!

We have found in the past that images of Sutton itself do REALLY well – and bin art sells well as well. Definitely bring bin art if you have any!

People love to watch us paint and craft. If you’ve got an easel or other painting / drawing project, bring it along!

Share the news with family and friends – this is a great all-ages fair with crafts, art, books, and more!

February 2017 Monthly Meeting – Photography

Our February 2017 meeting will be an open critique session on photography. Bring along printouts of your photos or a USB thumb drive for inserting into a laptop. Either way, we’ll offer ideas and suggestions.

Even if you primarily do painting, it might be that you sometimes paint from a photo. This session will offer ideas on how to improve those photos.

As always, our monthly meeting will be held at the:
Northbridge Senior Center
20 Highland Street
Whitinsville, MA 01590

Our monthly meetings are open to the public and are supported in part by grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

Our monthly meetings traditionally begin with about a half-hour of reviewing upcoming events and sharing member news. Then we go into the actual demo or workshop.

Flora 2017 Flowers and Art at the Worcester Art Museum

It’s that time of year! We’ll do a field trip to Flora! This fantastic show at the Worcester Art Museum has talented floral designers create flower arrangements to pair with specific works of art. The results can be stunning! Plus you get to roam the whole museum while you’re there, too. Always a treat.

Worcester Art Museum
55 Salisbury Street
Worcester, MA 01609

We’ll be meeting up there on Friday, January 27th, 2017 from 4-6pm. We’ll meet in the main Salisbury lobby (the one with the glass windows which overlooks the central courtyard).

The flowers are only put on display Thursday night so they will be fresh and colorful! The museum is open Friday night until 8pm so for members who show up late, just contact Lisa to find out where the group is.

Check your email for Lisa’s contact information – she provides it for email, text, and phone call, so you have three different options of finding her.

We hope to see you there!

Claflin Hill Music & Art Show – Fire & Ice 2017

The BVAA, in conjunction with the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra, is offering a fun night of art and music! The orchestra provides the music while the BVAA provides the art!
Milford Town Hall
52 Main Street
Milford, MA 01757

On Saturday, February 4th, 2017 from 7:30-10:00pm the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra will be performing a show. The BVAA will have art up for patrons to enjoy before the show and during intermission. This is an art-loving audience and we see good sales at these shows.

Submissions
Deadline to submit your titles and sizes via the online form is Monday, January 30th. This gives us time to determine how many panels will be needed. There’s no fee to participate and the show is open to all BVAA members. Anne will then respond back to everyone with a copy of the labels to proof and approve. If you don’t submit your information by Monday night you may still be able to participate, but your labels might not be proofed. This show is displayed on panels so works submitted need to be less than 36″ wide in order to fit on a panel. Any sales will include a 20% BVAA commission. Full BVAA terms: BVAA Show Terms and Conditions.

Drop-Off
Drop-Off for the show will be Friday, February 3rd from 4-6pm. Everything will be set up Friday night so it’s ready to go for Saturday. If you can’t make it on Friday, you can drop off Thursday during their open hours. Just put the artwork up in the performance hall. We’ve never had any issue with items being left there.

Public Viewing
Participating artists get free entry to enjoy the show! Let us know if you’re interested in attending the music!

Pick-Up
Pick-up will be Sunday morning from 8-10am. If you can’t make that, email us to make other arrangements.

Theme
The music being performed will be:

Stravinsky: Fireworks
DeFalla: El Amor Brujo (Ritual Fire Dance Ballet)
Ravel: Introduction and Allegro feat. Mason Morton
Sibelius: Symphony No. 1

We should aim to bring the best art in our libraries, to match the high quality of the performance. That being said, if you have two great pieces and one features a fire or ice theme then that might be a perfect one to choose!

Use the BVAA Online Submission Form to submit for this show.

Volunteers Needed
The BVAA is run by volunteers – please lend a hand! We need volunteers for the following activities:
* Hang the show from 5-6 on Friday
* Take it down at 8:30 on Sunday.

Let us know on your submission form how you’re able to help out. There is a 20% commission on sales – this commission is forgiven for those who help out!
