Sutton Art Festival – Sat June 4th

Sutton, Massachusetts is hosting their second annual Art Festival on Saturday, June 4th, 2016! The Blackstone Valley Art Association will have two booths there. The festival runs from 9am to 4pm. All art goes up in the morning at 8am and comes down in the afternoon after the festival’s close. It’s free for BVAA members to participate. Make sure you get your titles and prices submitted via our online form by Thursday, June 2nd.

One booth will be to feature the results of the Gerard Blouin Plein Air event as well as art depicting Sutton. Here’s details on the plein air –

The second booth will be open to all BVAA members.

Again, use the standard submission form to let us know what you’re bringing! We will be putting tags up with the artwork. The standard BVAA show commission of 20% applies but there is no entry fee to participate.

If you have a bin you may also bring a bin of matted prints to sell.

If you’re able to do some painting on-site, or origami, or other crafts, please do! They love making this an interactive experience.

The Sutton festival will be held on the Sutton Common, right outside the library and town hall. The address is:

4 Uxbridge Road

Sutton, MA 01590

There are bathrooms across the street at the Sutton library (beneath the town hall).

End-of-Year Pot Luck Party

event-2016-05-potluck

May is traditionally the end of the meetings year for the Blackstone Valley Art Association! We don’t have meetings in June, July, or August so members are free to go paint or photograph. Then September we begin up fresh with newly elected officers and we pay our dues for the coming year. So our schedule is sort of like the school year.

We will be bringing in main dishes and asking members to bring in an appetizer or dessert to share. Please let us know at INFO at BVAA.ORG what you’re bringing so we can coordinate. Also, let us know if you’re planning on attending so that we can figure out how much to get from the restaurant. In the past the price per person was about $12. We’ll know the price for this year once we get a headcount.

Before the dinner, we’ll be having our election of fresh officers for the coming 2016-2017 year. Those officers will begin their duties in September.

Let us know if you have any questions!

BVAA Plein Air Group

pleinairapril
Carol Frieswick, Becky Smith, and several other BVAA painters are organizing a loose plein air group to enjoy the warmer months. Here’s a photo of the group out on Sat April 12, 2016.

If you’d like to get notices about when the group will go out to paint, please let us know at INFO at BVAA.ORG. Let us know if you prefer weekdays or weekends, the time of day that works well for you, and so on.

As you might imagine, the field trips will be dependent on weather.

Tower Hill Field Trip – Wed April 27th

daffodils

Breathe in the fresh spring air! The BVAA is taking a field trip to the Tower Hill Botanical Garden on Wednesday, April 27th, 2016.

Tower Hill reports that their daffodil field is now at its peak, so it’s the time to go! And Wednesday is forecast for sunny weather. Because of the warm winter the field isn’t as lush as it’s been in years past, but it’ll still be a fun opportunity for great photography and painting!

More info on Tower Hill –

https://www.towerhillbg.org/

Let us know at the main INFO @ BVAA.org email address if you’d like to join us. The plan is to go in mid-afternoon when it’s both sunny and warm. Most people are arriving around 2pm but earlier or later is quite fine. Contact Lisa via text or cell or her gmail.com email address once you get there if you’d like to hook up. Or just meander over to the daffodils :).

Also, Tower Hill is running a photography contest. The photo must have been taken between April 1 and April 30, 2016 at Tower Hill. Check out the full details and enter!
