Happy Birthday to Jan Brueghel the Younger! He was born on September 13, 1601. He was born into a painting family. He and his brother were heavily encouraged by their father, Jan Brueghel the Elder, to continue the family business.
Jan II was born in Antwerp and took over the family business once his father passed away. He was well respected by the aristocracy of the time. He then trained his own sons in painting.
The family is most known for their landscapes.
The Worcester Public Library offers a wonderful way for artists to be seen by thousands of visitors to their library. The art is presented in locked cases and is safe from gooey little children’s fingers :). There are two areas involved in the art display.
First, at the center of the first floor by the information desk, is a space with two rows of two long, flat cases each. Behind them are two tall, vertical cases against the wall. Here’s looking at the group of six cases from the front right.

Now we’re standing in between the rows of “floor cases” and looking just at one case row with the vertical ones beyond it.

OK now we are moving to the main entrance of the library, located by the parking lot. In this area there are two standing vertical cases and two floor (horizontal) cases. First, the vertical case to the left of the entrance as you’re heading in, which is on its own.
Opposite this case are a pair of floor / horizontal cases along with another vertical case against a wall.
Here’s a close-up view of the two floor cases in this area.
So all told there are four tall / vertical cases and six floor / horizontal cases available for the art display. The art-and-poetry show will have 36 total artwork items paired with 36 poetry items. That will be an average of 3-4 art/poetry pairs per case. We will just need to make sure that we arrange for the taller pieces of art to go in those vertical units and for smaller pieces to go into the horizontal units.
It will be good for artists to think in terms of the sizes of these cases and not create massive mural-sized pieces :). On the other hand, they don’t have to go pendant-small, either. Somewhere in the middle will be good!

We bring the binder to all shows and events, and a binder is kept at the Milford TV Station with our art show there, so this is a great way to get your information seen by a wide audience.
We’re planning an excursion into Boston to do some street photography. The plan is for Saturday, September 24, 2016 with a rain date of Sunday, Sept 25.
The plan is for late afternoon street photography in Central Square and early evening shooting under the Zakim Bridge from parks on the Cambridge side of the Charles.

The idea would be to leave at 2 pm from a meeting point near here and shoot in Central Square from 3 pm to 5:30 pm +/-. Then we would travel to the park (not even 15 minutes to get there), and shoot the bridge and the skyline as sunset happens and the lights come on (sunset = 6:30 per the internet). Heading back home 7:30/8, finishing the day at the local rendezvous approx 9 pm.
Dinner? Bring a sandwich, which we would eat below the Zakim. That way we don’t spend the nice-light part of the evening sitting in a restaurant.
A bonus is that Blick and Artist & Craftsman Supply, both major league art-supply retailers, are in Central Square, so a few of us will sacrifice some shooting time to browse, I bet.
Another bonus is that the Lynch Family Skatepark is under the Zakim, too, right next to the parks.

The Apertures open-theme photography show at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod has a submission deadline of Friday, September 9th. While it is open themed, there are honorable mentions being given in specific categories, so it’s wise to be aware of those.

Entry is done through Café, a web-based service that allows artists to upload images and organize their artwork for submissions to galleries. To apply for a call, you must leave our website and go to the Café website at www.callforentry.org where you can create a FREE artist account. You will add your details and upload your images to Café and then you can submit work to APERTURES.
FORMATTING
All images must be in JPEG format using Café guidelines. The image size must be no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi. Maximum file size is 5 mb.
SALES
All sales inquiries will be directed to the artist’s website.
ARTWORK DISPLAY
If granted permission, the Cultural Center will display the First Place winner’s image in our new Photography and Digital Arts Studio.
REGULATIONS
By submitting images, you agree that the images are your own work, you own all rights to the images, and you take full responsibility for the content of all images, including the likeness of recognizable individuals. The actual artwork will remain the property of the artist. The artists will grant copyright to the Cultural Center for display and promotional use.
