BVAA Alternatives Uxbridge Community Art Gallery Information

Participation is open to the public. Each participant may exhibit up to two photos. These will be judged for cash prizes.

Entering the Show
The entry fee for the main show, open to all styles of photography, is $15/2 pieces for BVAA members and $20/2 pieces for non-members. The theme is wide open. You can submit a portrait, landscape, still life, abstract, seascape, you name it. Your imagination is the limit.

Photos can be any size. That being said, please contact us first if you plan on bringing anything over 20″ x 30″ in size. We need to arrange for space for those separately.

All photography must be family friendly and properly wired for hanging. Our hanging system does not work with saw-tooth or triangle hangers. If you are new to preparing photography for shows, read our page on How to Mat and Frame a Photo. Please also check out our Show Terms and Conditions

All photos which are entered are hung. There is no “pre-selection” process where some are accepted and others are rejected. If you submit artwork, and it is family-friendly and wired properly, it will be part of our show. You can have your photo listed with a price for sale, or you can have it Not For Sale if you wish.

Submissions
To submit your entries use our BVAA Online Submission Form. The deadline to submit is midnight on Saturday, January 12th, 2018. Work must be dropped off by Saturday, January 12th, 2019 at 3pm. All work which is brought in will be hung (as long as it is properly wired and is family-friendly).

We will hang the show on Wednesday January 16th.

It’s that time of year! The time to celebrate!

Our Annual Holiday Party for 2018 will be held on Tuesday, December 18th from 6:30-9pm. We’ll start from 6:30-7pm with our discussion of the group’s upcoming events, and then go into the party time.

Location
BVAA Uxbridge Gallery
5 South Main Street
Uxbridge, MA 01569

All members are welcome to attend and to bring a guest! We’ll be celebrating the Great Gifts show on this evening as well. Consider buying a gift or two for your own gift-giving lists!

We will be doing pot luck for appetizers and desserts. For the main meal we’ll have a catered main meal thanks to the Uxbridge First Night team:

Porketta
chicken
Pasta
green salad
Oven roasted potatoes
Rolls & butter
Coffee

Please bring either an appetizer or a dessert to share. Drinks would also be appreciated.

Cost for the main meal will be $15.50 per person. You can drop off cash or check at the gallery any Saturday, you can use PayPal online to info@bvaa.org, or you can snail-mail a check to:

BVAA
PO Box 136
Whitinsville, MA 01588

Please make sure to email in your reservations to us by THURSDAY DECEMBER 13th MIDNIGHT so we can plan for the final meal count. The caterers need time to plan out their meals! Please note that once that Thursday date is past, we have now paid for the full count of meals. So if you aren’t able to make it, please let us know by Thursday. Otherwise the money is now non-refundable.

On Tuesday, we’ll be there at 6pm sharp so the caterers can set up. Feel free to come in any time after 6pm :).

Yankee Swap
Our BVAA Holiday Parties feature a fun Yankee Swap gift exchange. You can participate or not participate as you wish. If you’d like to join in this fun project, bring a gift-wrapped gift of $10 or less in value. The way we do it is we put all the wrapped gifts in a pile. We hand out numbers so every person gets a number. Whoever is number 1 chooses a gift, unwraps it, and shows it to the group. Person 2 then goes and unwraps a gift. They can keep it or swap it with anybody else who has a gift out. It keeps going until the end, at which point person 1 can choose anything they want. It’s a lot of fun :).

We look forward to seeing everyone!

Southgate Art Show Bid – Submit by Dec 14 2018

ART SHOW OPPORTUNITY – FOR BVAA MEMBERS ONLY

The Southgate Retirement Community in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts is the ultimate in living experiences. They host curated art shows and their grounds have a wealth of high quality art on display.

This is a free opportunity for BVAA members to be part of a show at Southgate. We must submit a show proposal to be considered. Their current open spots are March 2019 and June 2019. The show would run for three months. We need to gather up the JPGs of the art we would have in our show along with a show statement for them to consider. They handle all hanging, the reception, and so on.

If you’re interested in participating, it is FREE. Send along JPG images of 1-2 of your artworks. They would need to be wired for hanging on a standard hanging system. Please send those images by Friday, December 14th midnight. That way we can assemble a show based on their space available and the artists who wish to participate. Send that to info@bvaa.org.

The theme for this show is FLORAL.

Here are some photos from Carol Frieswick’s show at Southgate, to get a sense of the space available.

Here’s a link to Southgate’s webpage, so you can see just how nice it is.

https://southgateatshrewsbury.com/

We are checking on what the commission would be for sales.

Ask with any questions!

Hannaford Giving Coupon 2018

For the entire month of December, you can provide a FREE $5 donation to the BVAA by purchasing the “fresh Cookbook” at Hannaford supermarkets.

The freshCookbook was released in July 2018 and contains the best fresh Magazine recipes that Hannaford customers have enjoyed for years – plus it is a perfect holiday gift!

At checkout, you’ll then be given a “Giving Coupon”. You indicate that it should go to support the BVAA.

We get a $5 donation!

This is valid through December 31, 2018. So be sure to keep your eyes out for that cookbook when you’re at Hannaford’s!

1) Review Milford TV Station Schedule
Schedule is set. Milford TV has it posted. Individual events are set up on BVAA.org site and on Facebook page. Milford has been lobbying for the separate receptions and will be paying for food and wine for them. The schedule of all “last Thursdays of the Month” (except for December) should build up attendance momentum.

Dennis suggested setting up master time-based listing of upcoming events on BVAA.org page.

2) Review BVAA meeting presenter schedule
Carol F did an awesome job of arranging this back in August or so. This seems to be set and fine.

Sept. JoAnn Naugher — Alcohol Inks (had to cancel, had Carol Arnold instead)

Oct. Adria Arch — Golden Acrylic products demo and free samples (people loved this)

Nov. Carolyn Letvin — Monoprints via palm printing method

Dec. party

Jan. Panel of Photographers who have done work in a series—Bob E.-James and Mike etc.

Feb. group critique

March. Gamblin product demo and free samples

April. JoAnn Naugher — Alcohol Inks

May. election and party

Note that the Golden demo person is willing to do a 4-hour workshop for $600. We’d have to get at least 10 people to want to do it before the per-person price became even remotely reasonable.

Also look into Grafton pastel workshop.

I’ll let people know about the Cuttyhunk / Avalon opportunities in late spring.
