• Exhibitors may submit up to three original works in any medium
(excluding photography, laser prints, or computer generated)
• Size not to exceed 175” overall perimeter including frame.
• Artwork must be professionally presented, ready to hang with proper wiring, name of artist, and title of work marked on back. [no sawtooth hangers, clip-on, scratched or damaged frames accepted]
• Framed works on paper must be under glass or acrylic glazing
• White or off-white mats are highly recommended
• Works on stretcher bars must be properly stretched and wired for hanging
• Framing is optional for gallery wrapped or cradled panels
• All entries must be for sale and will remain on exhibit until the show closing date
FEES
1 Entry $25, $15 for each additional entry
Payment is made at the time of submission through Smarter Entry
Gallery sales commission is 35% for each work sold.
PLEASE NOTE: Artworks are not insured by SBG. Artists should maintain their own insurance while work is on SBG premises. Although we take the utmost care of all works submitted, SBG is not responsible for any damage incurred after drop off. All packing material must be taken away by the artist upon drop off. SBG retains the right to reproduce images of your work for publicity for the exhibition.

This is not a BVAA show, but many of us have had art in the Morini Gallery in the past. It’s a great location and well worth submitting to. This is a juried-in show, meaning you submit JPGs to them to evaluate. If you’re chosen for the show, you then drive your artwork down to them.

The Morini Gallery at Mass
Music and Art Society (MMAS) is seeking submissions for its upcoming jury
selected exhibition “In the Zone”. Artists are encouraged to submit works in all mediums 2D including
photography. Images should not exceed 48” in any direction including frame.
In the words of Emily Hill, the journalist, being “in the zone” is
delicious, immersive, and kinda trippy. Time collapses. Sound falls away.
Suddenly we look up, and it’s 4 a.m.. This tunnel-vision phenomenon is
reported by athletes, creatives, and psychologists alike as a hyper-focused,
sometimes spiritual, state of mind where anything is possible. It’s where we
become our most productive, creative, and powerful selves.
Take a moment to recall that feeling and show us examples of when you
truly felt you were…..

Denise Driscoll is an
abstract painter whose large-scale acrylic paintings involve extensive time “in
the zone”. She has instigated, organized, or juried exhibits including “Material
Meditation” at the New Art Center, “Multiplicity” at Fountain Street Gallery,
“Iteration” at Gallery 263, and the “Storefront Art Project” for Lesley
University. Her work has been shown throughout New England and her paintings
are widely collected. Driscoll earned her MFA in Visual Art at Lesley Art +
Design, where she currently teaches. She maintains a studio at Norwood Space
Center, lives in Framingham, and is represented by Fountain Street Gallery.
The 29th Annual Hopedale Day in the Park is on Saturday September 14th, 2019!
The Blackstone Valley Art Association regularly gets a booth at this festival in order to promote our artwork and membership. You’re welcome to bring cards, prints, and small art to sell.
In addition, the Hopedale Cultural Council sponsors a HUGE art show at this event, under a big white tent. Many of our members routinely win prizes. Here’s an image from 2017 when our member Libia Goncalves won first prize.
It is WELL worth entering this art festival. It’s a part of a one-day big festival on the Hopedale common with music, food, booths, and all sorts of things. The entry fee is $20.
There are four categories for prize getting: * watercolors * oils / acrylics * photography * mixed media (pretty much anything else)
Here’s some details for entering.
* ALL ART MUST BE FRAMED AND WIRED.
* ALL SIGNATURES MUST BE COVERED BY CARDSTOCK FOR JUDGING. They’ll remove the cards later on, but when you bring your artwork in the signature MUST be hidden. That way the judging can be reasonably anonymous.
* YOU MUST BE THERE BETWEEN 8-9AM FOR DROPOFF. Then they judge so you can’t be late. If you have a challenge with this, talk with us and we can coordinate with someone who is going in to bring your art in for you.
* THE ART FESTIVAL AND OUR BOOTH ARE TWO SEPARATE THINGS. The art festival is run by the Hopedale Cultural Council and we all enter that show. In addition to that, we also have a booth at the event which we put our own art up in, for free. Our booth is best for smaller quick-purchase items, matted prints, and notecards.
* YOU MUST SEND IN A PAPER FORM TO REGISTER. That has to be received by September 8th 2019. Don’t wait for the last minute on this one. Register early.

On Monday, June 24, 2019 from 5:70-7pm there’ll be an invitation-only event held at the Singh Performance Center in Whitinsville, Mass. This inspiring evening will bring together 20 local community members from all walks of life to learn about each other, explore their creativity, and try out a variety of fun activities.
If you’ve been invited to attend our Unexpected Connections event – welcome! Here’s what we are planning.
5:15pm – arrival period and community sculpture creation. Participants receive colored name tags which sort them into four groups of 5 each.
5:30pm – introduction and song singalong
5:45pm – icebreaker! Each group creates fun “machines” with our bodies.
6:00pm / 6:15pm / 6:30pm – the groups rotate through three stations:
Creating string art
Planting edible flowers
Writing a joint story
6:45pm – light snacks and drinks are provided. People relax and share their thoughts
7:00pm – goodbye song
This event was developed out of a workshop series on “Arts in Complex Community Change” – a series designed to help local community leaders in the Whitinsville area develop new ways for the arts to help foster improvement in community relations. It’s run by EmcArts.
A purpose of tonight’s event is to help play-test the idea of having events which are focused on a particular topic, such as gardening, storytelling, music, and art creation. We’re interested in finding out which types of activities individuals would be interested in attending. We’re also examining if this type of activity helps to foster stronger bonds between diverse members of our community.

ValleyCAST and Alternatives in 2019 received a grant through Mass Development to help them access the feasibility of developing inclusive, collaborative workspaces at the Whitin Mill campus that would better meet the needs of the community.
They are interested in responses from people throughout the Blackstone Valley.

Uxbridge has an amazing new offering! Firefly Gallery and Gifts is an art gallery which has opened up at 15 Mendon Street in Uxbridge, MA.
They have all sorts of paintings, sculptures, jewelry, and other items available.
They offer art classes – check their calendar!
If you’re an artist who would like to teach classes, they are actively looking for teachers. They have a beautiful studio space with a bank of windows overlooking the waterfall. Here are a few photos of the space.

In addition, there are two smaller studio spaces which can be rented by the hour. This is perfect for artists, musicians, authors, poets, and other creatives to have a beautiful space to relax and work. My photos are a bit dark because I wanted to show the scenery outside the window – the rooms are actually well lit.
