Uxbridge, MA was settled way back in 1662. Did you know it was once part of Mendon? Uxbridge is famous for providing rights to the very first colonial woman voter, Lydia Taft! And a feisty Uxbridge woman, Deborah Sampson, posed as a man to fight in the American Revolution!
Celebrate that spirit of all that makes Uxbridge amazing on Saturday, June 1st, 2019. We’re turning downtown Uxbridge into a festival of music, artwork, gifts, laughter, and much, much more. There’ll be a DJ, live paintings, origami, and adventure! Local authors will be signing books! All ages welcome, and it’s free!
When: Saturday, June 1, 2019 10am – 3pm
Where: Downtown Uxbridge Our art gallery is at 5 South Main Street Uxbridge, MA 01569
Invite family and friends! Bring everyone out to celebrate the cultural center which is Uxbridge!

Breathe in the fresh spring air! The BVAA will be taking a field trip to the Tower Hill Botanic Garden on Tuesday, April 23rd, 2019. The rain date is Wednesday, April 24th. Their famous “field of daffodils” should be in peak bloom at that point. This trip was brainstormed by Laura Cenedella – thank you so much Laura for the idea!
The idea is to paint / photograph from 10-12, take a break for lunch, and then go again from 1-3. Of course if you just want to come for a portion of the time you’re welcome to!
Most libraries offer discount tickets to get in to Tower Hill. Normal rates are $16 each for adults and $11 each for seniors 65+. Make sure you talk to your library early so you get the ticket for the 23rd.
Lisa Shea will be coming in a long white skirt, white top, and big, floppy hat. She’s happy to pose and sprawl for you to photograph and paint :).
If you think you’ll get hungry in the middle we can either eat at their delicious cafe or we can bring in picnic snacks / sandwiches to eat.
Tower Hill is at:

What a fantastic holiday! Monday, April 8th, 2019, is International Draw A Bird day.
This holiday found its source in 1943 when a young girl in England was cheering up her uncle, a war veteran. To distract him from his worries, she asked him to draw her a bird. The rest is history! Together we all draw birds and celebrate the beauty of life.
In the image above, the leftmost three images are done by Bonnie Frederico. The three on the right are by Frank Robertson. Both artists are amazingly talented. Those images are part of our current Series show at the Uxbridge gallery and are available for sale. Stop on by the gallery and take a look in person!
We’d love to see your bird images for Draw A Bird day. Email them to us, post them as comments, or post them on our social media sites! Join in the birding celebration!
The Blackstone Valley Art Association is sponsoring its annual BVAA Spectacular Spring Show – this is our 61st year! The show is open to all BVAA members. If you’re not yet a BVAA member, now’s the time to join us!
When: May 17 to June 14, 2019
Where: BVAA / Open Sky Uxbridge Community Art Gallery 5 South Main Street Uxbridge, MA 01569
About the Show: The Blackstone Valley Art Association celebrates its 61st year with its annual Spectacular Spring show. This open-themed extravaganza features the very best artwork from its diverse membership. We explore stunning black and white photography, soaring landscapes, delicate watercolors, swirling acrylics, precisely detailed oil paintings, and much, much more. Our members range from teens to retirees, from those just starting out to award-winning Putney Painters. We warmly invite you to our opening reception where you can enjoy insightful conversations with the artists and infuse inspiration into your life!
Entering the Show The entry fee for the Spectacular Spring show, open to all styles of artwork, is $8/piece or $20 for three. You can submit up to three pieces. The theme is wide open. You can submit a portrait, landscape, still life, abstract, seascape, you name it. Your imagination is the limit. Because this show is judged, you cannot enter anything which has previously been submitted for a BVAA judged show. It’s fine to enter works which have been in non-judged BVAA shows.
All artwork must be family friendly. Any hanging artwork MUST BE properly wired for hanging. The gallery will not accept non-wired wall-hanging artwork. If you are new to preparing hanging artwork for shows, read our page on How to Mat and Frame Artwork. Please also check out our Show Terms and Conditions
Submissions To submit your entries use our BVAA Online Submission Form. The deadline to submit the online form is midnight on Saturday, May 11th, 2019. Work should be dropped off that Saturday, May 11th from 10am to 3pm. All work which is brought in will be hung (as long as it is properly wired and is family-friendly).
We will have a sign-in sheet. Please make sure you sign your art in so we can track what is in the gallery.
The show will be hung on Wednesday, May 15th from 4-6pm. We’d love to have you come participate! Hanging is easy and fun now that we have the wall hanging system. It’s all about figuring out which artwork styles go together.
Judging This show awards cash prizes based on the number of entries received. The judge for this show is to be determined.
Opening Reception The opening reception for the show is: Friday, May 17th, 2019 5-7pm

Please invite family and friends – all are welcome!
