Holga Camera Factory Closing

twocamerasImportant update! News from various sources – which has been confirmed – is that as of November 2015 the Holga camera factory is shutting down. It seems there is such little demand for 120 film cameras – especially cheap ones made of plastic – that it’s just not worth it for them to stay in business any more.

The Wall Street Journal did a photo essay on the Holga Camera Factory on February 18, 2014 – these things are hand assembled. Which might be why they are not making enough money on this project to keep it going.

And unfortunately it’s not that someone else could buy the factory and resurrect it. Patrick White of Freestyle Photography Supplies has reported “they have sent all of the tooling and molds to the scrapyard.” So true Holgas can never be made again. Someone would have to start making imitation Holgas.

Here is a Flickr group about Holga images with over 277,000 images –

BVAA 2016 Calendar Project

A number of BVAA members have asked about us doing a 2016 calendar of our artwork. The first step is to gather up the artwork! The images should be landscape in orientation. We’ll do it with CafePress. That way it’s print-on-demand so there is no up front fee for the BVAA nor any requirement to order a minimum volume. You can see what their calendars look like here –

https://www.cafepress.com/+calendars?cat=100158

You want to aim for a ratio of about 1.28 for width to length but if that’s confusing, don’t worry. Just choose landscape images and if your image is chosen we’ll help with the details.

Post the images you’d like to be considered in this Facebook thread:

https://www.facebook.com/BVArtAssoc/posts/931706133572836

Please have them posted by December 1st.

If we get 12 or more members participating then we’ll aim for each member to be represented, as best we can.
