Sutton, Massachusetts is hosting their second annual Art Festival on Saturday, June 4th, 2016! The Blackstone Valley Art Association will have two booths there. The festival runs from 9am to 4pm. All art goes up in the morning at 8am and comes down in the afternoon after the festival’s close. It’s free for BVAA members to participate. Make sure you get your titles and prices submitted via our online form by Thursday, June 2nd.
One booth will be to feature the results of the Gerard Blouin Plein Air event as well as art depicting Sutton. Here’s details on the plein air –

The second booth will be open to all BVAA members.
Again, use the standard submission form to let us know what you’re bringing! We will be putting tags up with the artwork. The standard BVAA show commission of 20% applies but there is no entry fee to participate.
If you have a bin you may also bring a bin of matted prints to sell.
If you’re able to do some painting on-site, or origami, or other crafts, please do! They love making this an interactive experience.

May is traditionally the end of the meetings year for the Blackstone Valley Art Association! We don’t have meetings in June, July, or August so members are free to go paint or photograph. Then September we begin up fresh with newly elected officers and we pay our dues for the coming year. So our schedule is sort of like the school year.
We will be bringing in main dishes and asking members to bring in an appetizer or dessert to share. Please let us know at INFO at BVAA.ORG what you’re bringing so we can coordinate. Also, let us know if you’re planning on attending so that we can figure out how much to get from the restaurant. In the past the price per person was about $12. We’ll know the price for this year once we get a headcount.
Before the dinner, we’ll be having our election of fresh officers for the coming 2016-2017 year. Those officers will begin their duties in September.

Every two months we rotate the show at the Milford TV Station. The drop-off for the upcoming May-June 2016 show on the theme of “Florals” is Thursday, April 28th from 6-8pm. We do these on the last Thursday of the month preceding the show.
This date is also the reception (and take down) for the existing “Green / Spring” show. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend!

The Milford people do the labels and hanging for us, so please use the online submission form to indicate what you’re bringing and also label the back of each piece with its information. This show is for BVAA members only and is free to participate in. Most artists bring in three items. They can be any size or shape – Milford has a great hanging system which can accommodate pretty much anything.
The BVAA, in conjunction with the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra, is offering a fun night of art and music! The orchestra provides the music while the BVAA provides the art!
On Saturday, April 30, 2016 from 7:30-8:30pm the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra will be performing a show. The BVAA will have art up for patrons to enjoy before the show and during intermission.
Deadline to submit your titles and sizes via the online form is Monday, April 25th. This gives us time to determine how many panels will be needed. There’s no fee to participate and the show is open to all BVAA members.
Drop-Off for the show will be Thursday, April 28th and Friday, April 29th from 4-6pm. Everything will then be set up Friday night so it’s ready to go for Saturday. Pick-up will be Sunday morning from 8-10am. If you can’t make that, email us to make other arrangements.
We need volunteers to help us hang the show from 5-6 on Friday and to take it down at 8:30 on Sunday. Please let us know if you’re available. There is a 20% commission on sales which will be forgiven for those who help out!

DROPOFF DETAILS:
To get to to Milford Town Hall, 52 Main Street from Millbury take 140 S for around 10 miles. Take a slight left on West Street, which becomes Exchange Street. Turn left onto Main Street/MA-16 for about 2 1/2 miles. It’s a tall white steepled building very hard to miss. There are parking lots on either side of the bldg. as well as street parking.
You may enter by the side entrance where the handicapped ramp is, go in via the ramp and basement entrance and use the elevator to go to the second floor. Anne will have signs up around the building indicating where these are.
Mark your calendars! Our April meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 19th from 6:30-9pm. We’ll be doing a session on how to take high-quality images of your non-photographic art. So this includes paintings, drawings, sculptures, and more. There are so many reasons that you might need good photos / JPGs of your art either to submit online for a show or to post about your works on social media. Come on by to learn the techniques!
The session will be moderated by talented photographer Al Weems.
Our monthly meetings are open to all – members and non-members.
