Cyanotype Workshop 2 – Feb 10 2018

cyanotype by Lisa Shea

UPDATE: Saturday 2/10 is looking to be cloudy. We will still give the cyanotypes a try, but we’ll also plan to paint while they expose, as it could take up to 20 minutes per exposure. This will be a patient, mindful process without strong sun :).

Come on out and enjoy this fun hands-on workshop! This workshop teaches you all about cyanotypes. Cyanotypes are an early form of photography. We’ll explain how they’re made. We’ll explore the different types of cyanotypes you can make. Then we go hands-on. You end the workshop with your very own cyanotypes, created by you. For those who participated in the Feb 3rd workshop, we’ll sew your fabric cyanotypes into pillows. For everyone else, we’ll create regular paper cyanotypes here suitable for cards or framing.

This fascinating workshop is free and open to the public. Please make sure you register beforehand so we know what supplies to bring. Carol has black and white photos you can use, or you can bring your own. If you bring your own, it’s best not to bring actual photos (on photo paper). It’s best to print the photos on either watercolor paper or Mi-Teintes paper, which will take the pastels better. You can run your paper through your printer (or get it done at Staples) to get the image onto the paper. You can contact us if you’d like help!

2018 BVAA Sunflower Show at the Booklovers’ Gourmet

Our September 2018 Sunflower Show celebrates the sunny beautiful flower! The art show is in conjunction with a stunning lush garden of sunflowers out front of the Booklovers’ Gourmet.

Where?
The sunflower art show is held at the:
Booklovers’ Gourmet
55 E Main St
Webster, MA 01570

About the Show
If there ever was a flower which symbolized glorious summertime, the sunflower is the one. Did you know that nearly all of the 70 species of sunflowers are native to North America? They can grow to be up to six feet tall and they even tilt as the sun moves so they always face it!

The Blackstone Valley Art Association is celebrating this sun-shaped delight with a sunflower show throughout the month of September at the Booklovers’ Gourmet in Webster. Our show complements the massive garden of live sunflowers which the bookstore is famous for. Come on out to admire the live flowers, appreciate the artistic versions, and explore the shop’s offerings!

Submissions
The submission deadline for the sunflower show is Monday, August 20th, 2018. We have limited wall space here for 16-20 items so what we’ll do is have each member submit an image or two via email to Lisa Shea they’d like to include. Depending on how many entries we get, we’ll see how many items we can hang per person. If we get too many we’ll do a Facebook vote. This show is open to all BVAA members and is free to participate in. This is not a judged show – it is primarily a visibility and sales opportunity. Any sales will include a 25% commission taken by the shop. The BVAA takes no commission on this show. Full BVAA terms: BVAA Show Terms and Conditions

Selection of 2018 Sunflower Images
