3 Days Until 2018 Spring Spectacular Deadline

Only 3 more days to submit your titles/prices for the Spectacular Spring Show at the Amazing Things gallery!

The theme is wide open – the art can be on any topic you wish. I.e. The art doesn’t have to be about “spring” :). It can be a monochrome study of a glacier, an oil painting of a pumpkin, anything at all!

We love photography, painting, sculpture, and more! Newcomers warmly welcomed – we all grow and learn!

Uxbridge Sketch Walk & Art Festival

Uxbridge features some of the most beautiful scenery in the region. Did you know that within a 5 minute walk of our Uxbridge Art Gallery there is a train station, several old churches, two historical homes, a waterfall, and several old stone buildings?

We have created a day of creativity, art, and fun to explore all that is delightful about Uxbridge!

This event is FREE and open to the public! All are welcome!

When:
Saturday, May 12th, 2018
9am – 3pm

Where:
BVAA Alternatives Uxbridge Community Gallery
5 South Main Street
Uxbridge, MA 01569

In the spirit of Urban Sketchers, we will sketch Uxbridge!

If you’d like to stay close, you can walk from the gallery to explore the nearby sights. Not enough? Then it’s just a 5 minute drive to the stone arch bridge, red barn, and canal views at River Bend Farm. Or for a little elevation, climb Goat Hill.

This sketch walk will be led by talented artist Dennis Smith. We will meet at the BVAA Alternatives Uxbridge Community Art Gallery at 5 South Main at 9am to get acquainted. Ten minutes after the meet time, we will head off as a group or split up and head to one or more locations. Over the course of the morning the idea is to visit several of the locations around Uxbridge and create artwork at them. We will provide a sketch map showing the locations along with suggested routes and stops.

Dennis has put together an amazing set of maps and photos to get you started. Here you go!

Bring your sketchbook or pad, pens, pencils, watercolors or whatever your favorite medium and have at it. For inspiration and to get an idea of what others have done, visit Urban Sketchers website at https://www.urbansketchers.org or their Boston group at https://www.facebook.com/urbansketchersboston

We will meet back at the art gallery between noon and 1pm to share our experiences. We will create a wall of our sketches so we can take photos of the art and our group. At 1pm we’ll order in pizza – anyone interested in sharing should donate a few dollars to the pot. There are also several other food choices right on this street, for those not interested in pizza.

We’ll also have a showcase of local art on hand for visitors to explore. From notecards to prints to original paintings, we’ll delight in the fantastic beauty which is Uxbridge.

There is a TON of free parking immediately next to this building. It is fully and easily handicapped accessible.

Feel free to show up for some or all of the day to paint. Some come for just the morning, some for the afternoon, and some for the entire time. There are several options on the same block to grab lunch if you’d like. We also bring in a pizza and those who want slices chip in a few dollars.

Note that there’ll also be a Holga photography class during the afternoon here. Not to worry, the class is quite casual and there will be no problem at all to have the painters and the class in the same space! We’ll encourage each other in our creativity!

EditFest with Dennis Smith – Apr 21 2018

In the spirit of Reddit’s “Ask Me Anything” we are holding an editing challenge where we will edit any picture you bring in. Have a landscape that doesn’t pop? A portrait that looks green? A room interior where the walls tip crazy? Bring ’em on.

This event is FREE and open to the public! All are welcome!

When:
Saturday, April 21st, 2018
9am – noon

Where:
BVAA Alternatives Uxbridge Community Gallery
5 South Main Street
Uxbridge, MA 01569

Dennis Smith will edit your Pictures in Lightroom. Anything is fair game and he will do his best to fix any faults and make it look great. If there are not enough attendees’ photos, Dennis will bring some of his most awful shots and demo how to make them sing. Or at least hum.

Dennis will be editing on his computer in Lightroom with perhaps a short side trip to Photoshop or Silver Efex Pro. His screen will be projected so everyone can see the down and dirty.

To participate, just show up with your soon-to be-bettered pictures on a USB key or on a SDHC photo card.

This should be fun and educational, and you’ll be able to take home your edited image.

There is a TON of free parking immediately next to this building. It is fully and easily handicapped accessible.

Reminder! Sculpture with Bob Collins on FRI MAR 23 2018!

A reminder that our meeting this month is on FRIDAY MARCH 23 2018! We will learn how to do sculpture! Not your average, ordinary sculpture of course. But cool sculpture, made out of black sheets of foam core. This image is from Bob’s current exhibit at the Post Road Art Center.

Rather than ask everyone to go out and buy supplies, please respond back with what you currently have and we will powwow together. Then we’ll get the things we’re missing to share.

The list is:

sheets of black foam core with a black center core. Black all the way through.
Exacto knives
Pencils (ok I can handle this one, I have tons of pencils)
Hot glue guns

We can probably share hot glue guns, and I’d bet most of us have an Exacto knife or two lying around the house. Don’t we? Let us know which of those you have.

That leaves the sheets of black foam core. Let us know if you have any or if you have any ideas where to get some. You can see in the photo what we’ll be doing with them. We’ll be creating all sorts of cool things! Heck, we will create our very own Black Thing Sculpture Park in the middle of the gallery and take a video of it. It will go viral :).

So please respond to the supply list, so we know what we’re working with. Then we hope to see you next Friday March 23rd! It will be a blast!
