The BVAA will be putting on a cyanotype show at the Booklovers’ Gourmet in Webster, Massachusetts! The show will run from July 1 through July 30, 2016.
If you’re a BVAA member and are interested in being a part of the show, let us know!
They can handle 20-25 images so the number of images per person will depend on the number of participants.
The shop takes a 25% commission on all sales.
We’ll be holding a reception, date to be determined. Probably Saturday July 23rd.
Here’s their website with more details about the bookstore and cafe –
We had absolutely gorgeous weather on March 5-6, 2016 for our cyanotype workshop! Thank you so much to Bob Evans for volunteering his home for this project. It worked out perfectly! Both days were beautifully sunny. We did testing and painting on Saturday and then Sunday was about exposing the things we painted on Saturday. The range of results was just staggering!
The group was Lisa S, Bob E, Marie C, Libia G, Becky S, Pam S, and Sara Beth G. Libia wasn’t able to make it on Sunday so she’s missing from the group photo; she’s represented by the empty shirt.

Lisa Shea has written a book on making cyanotypes. If you’re a BVAA member, let her know you’re interested and she’ll send you a free copy of it.
Mark your calendars! The BVAA will be doing a Plein Air event with Gerard Blouin in Sutton on Saturday, May 21, 2016 from 9:30-3pm. Gerard is a talented artist who works in oils and watercolors.

Let us know if you’re interested in participating in our Plein Air outing! BVAA Contact Information
The location is the Shaw Farm property in Sutton.
Fee:
free for present BVAA members and residents of Sutton
$35 for anyone else.
Restricted to the first 12 people to sign up and pay a $25 refundable space holding fee.
Money will be refunded at the end of the attended workshop.
Paintings done at the Plein Air will then be showcased at the Second Annual Sutton Art Festival two weeks later.
Event Notes:
Bring food and drink with you. This is an abandoned property and there is nothing here.
The nearest restrooms are just north of the intersection of Rte 146 and Central Turnpike, at the Market 32 grocery store. There is also a 5 Guys restaurant there and a gas station.
Directions to Shaw Farm:
While technically the address is on “Shaw Lane”, I wouldn’t rely on a GPS to get you there – several members have had issues with their GPS finding the road. It’s best to know how to get there manually. You take Route 146 toward Sutton and get off of Exit 7. Head west on Central Turnpike. About three miles down is the intersection with Putnam Hill Road. This is where the Blue Jay used to be before it burnt down :). Take a right (go north) on Putnam Hill Road. The driveway to Shaw Farm is your third road on the right. Please go up to the farm buildings, turn around, and then park on the right side of the driveway heading back toward the road. That way we keep our cars out of the line of sight.
Our March 2016 demo will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. This meeting / demo is open to the public. The meeting begins at 6:30pm and the demo tends to begin around 7pm and run until about 9pm. It’s held at the Northbridge Senior Center in Northbridge, MA.
The featured artist for our March 2016 demo is the talented Sarah Alexander. Sarah is a local artist who does watercolors, acrylics, and oil paintings, often with a 3D effect to them. She does florals, abstracts, landscapes, and much more.
Sarah will bring pieces in various states of completion so we can see how she creates her works.
Visit Sarah’s website for a full range of her images:
Blackstone LibraryThe Blackstone Valley Art Association is holding their 2016 Spring Show at the Blackstone Public Library! This library is located at 86 Main Street, Blackstone, MA.
Submissions are done online and should be in by Friday, June 10, 2016. The library has a great hanging system so your paintings and photos can be pretty much ANY size. This is the perfect time to bring out those larger images!
Drop-off for the show is on Monday, June 13th from 6-8pm. The show will be hung that evening.
There will be two receptions for this show.
The first is an evening reception on Thursday, June 16th from 5-8pm.
The second is a morning reception on Saturday, June 18th from 10-12 noon.
The show will then be taken down and pick-up is that same June 18th from 12-2.
This show is for BVAA members only. The entry fee is $20 for three pieces. Because this show is being judged, you cannot submit works that have been previously judged in any other BVAA show. That includes the Premier Art Gallery BVAA show (but not their independent photography show they had afterwards). The BVAA has its standard 20% commission for sales at this show.
We are aiming to get enough items that we can have two categories for judging – one for photographs and the other for all other work. The library has a locked case so sculptures, origami, pottery, and other forms of artwork are enthusiastically accepted!
