Tonight is the deadline for the 52 Frames weekly photography challenge! For this week ending Sunday, January 14, 2018, the theme is “Blue”.

The above image is a cyanotype created by Lisa Shea. You have to take the image in this week of the challenge. I created this cyanotype (and several others) this week.

Winter Palette Feb 2018 Call for Artists

This event is not associated with the Blackstone Valley Art Association – we are sharing the news for the Booklovers’ Gourmet.

CALL TO LOCAL ARTISTS!

“Winter Palette” 2018
Annual February Group Show
at Booklovers’ Gourmet

Where:
Booklovers’ Gourmet, 55 East Main Street, Webster

When:
February 1-28, 2018

What:
Original artwork that depicts the theme of winter, either literally or figuratively, in any media including photography, painting, drawing, collage, fabric, etc.

Drop off dates:
Tuesday, January 30th or Wednesday, January 31st
10 AM-6 PM

Requirements:
• All work must be framed or ready to hang, preferably with a wire.
• Work must not be larger than 16″X20″ including any framing or matting.
• Artists may bring 1 or 2 pieces for consideration.
• There is no submission fee.
• A 25% commission will be taken on any sales during the month.
• Pricing is at the sole discretion of the artist.
• A meet the artists reception will take place on Saturday, February 17th, 2-4 p.m.
• Pick up of work at end of show on Wednesday, February 28th before 6:30 p.m.

Congratulations to Morini Gallery Light and Shadow Selections

Congratulations to the BVAA members who were chosen for the 2018 “Light and Shadow” show at the Morini Gallery in Mansfield!

Self-Portrait / 52 Frames

Today’s the deadline for the first weekly challenge at 52 Frames – “Self-Portrait”. Here’s Lisa Shea’s, or at least half of it. She wants to add a night-time version once the sun goes down so you can see the shine of those LEDs. She did this with stick-on LED lights which she hand painted in the various colors.

Red White + Blue Call for Artists – Brookline Arts Center 2018

The Brookline Arts Center invites artists of all media residing in the United States to submit work that explores the complexity of “Red, White + Blue”. From the charming to the challenging, we are looking for work that expresses nostalgia, national identity, political commentary and diverse interpretations of pride.

Eligibility
All artists residing in United States are eligible to submit work. All applications must be entered online through the BAC’s submission form. Up to six pieces of original artwork can be submitted.

Artwork Requirements
All media welcome.
Artwork must have been created within the last five years.
All submitted work must be original.
Work must be available for exhibition dates.
Maximum size 2D: up to 84″ in either dimension.
Maximum size 3D: combined dimensions must not exceed a total of 144 inches (height+width+depth), total weight must not exceed 100lbs.
Video work: If accepted, the artist is responsible for providing all necessary viewing equipment.
Submission Requirements
Artists may submit up to six works. One jpg per submission. Images MUST be in jpg format, high quality, 1 MB size max. All work must be accompanied by title, materials, dimensions and year of completion (fill out on submission form).
Format for image files: Lastname_Firstname_1, Lastname_Firstname_2, etc.
Artists must also submit an artist statement and resume. Files must be in pdf format.
Submissions without payment of entry fee will not be considered.

*The Brookline Arts Center reserves the right to withdraw acceptance if quality does not reflect images or if the artist violates requirements.

Notification
Artists will be notified of their status via e-mail by 5:00pm on Friday, February 9, 2018. If your work is selected, it must arrive presentation ready (with appropriate installation materials) by 5:00pm on Friday, March 9, 2018. Shipped work must be received in reusable wrapping with check or prepaid label for return shipping. Work must remain on exhibit through Friday, April 20, 2018.

The Golden Hours Call to Art – Cultural Center of Cape Cod 2018

This call to art is for photographers! It’s about “The Golden Hours” and is run by the Cultural Center of Cape Cod in South Yarmouth, MA. Here’s the details.

THEME
If there’s one thing that can make or break a photograph more than any other, it’s lighting. In photography, the golden hour is the period shortly after sunrise or before sunset during which daylight has a soft diffused glow. It’s warm, dimensional, and just flat-out magical, and we can see why photographers swear by it. Show us THE GOLDEN HOURS through your perspective, any and all methods of capture and process are welcome.

Notification of winners and online gallery opening Friday, February 16, 2018

AWARDS

RULES
Work that is copied or done under the guidance of an instructor is not eligible. All styles of photography will be accepted; film, digital, alternative process, iPhone, etc. Stills only, no video.

JURORS
Director’s choice. Please note, there is no personal feedback given by jurors.

NOTIFICATION
Notification will be done by email. If for any reason you do not receive your notification by the notification date, please check the filters in your email account.

ENTRY BY WEBSITE UPLOAD ONLY
Entry is done through Café, a web-based service that allows artists to upload images and organize their artwork for submissions to galleries. To apply for a call, you must leave our website and go to the Café website at www.callforentry.org where you can create a FREE artist account. You will add your details and upload your images to Café and then you can submit work to THE GOLDEN HOURS.

FORMATTING
All images must be in JPEG format using Café guidelines. The image size must be no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi. Maximum file size is 5 mb.

SALES
All sales inquiries will be directed to the artist’s website.

REGULATIONS
By submitting images, you agree that the images are your own work, you own all rights to the images, and you take full responsibility for the content of all images, including the likeness of recognizable individuals. The actual artwork will remain the property of the artist. The artists will grant copyright to the Cultural Center for display and promotional use.

The Sprinkler Factory in cooperation with Piya Samant announces a call for artists for “Flora Fauna”, a group art show for the month of July 2018!

The Morini Gallery is committed to supporting local artists
Artists are invited to explore the relationship between light and shadow, black and white, day and night. Traditional as well as conceptual visual interpretations will be considered. The central idea is to explore light and shadow – in whatever manner your creativity and thoughts compel you.

This is a juried exhibit. The show is open to photography only, Artists may enter up to three (3) images.

Rebecca is a core artist member at the Fountain Street Gallery in Boston and graduate of Rhode Island School of Design. Hope & Feathers Call to Printmakers: Give a Sh*t 1/9/2018

It’s not often that a call to art contains a swear word in it! Here is the write-up from the Hope & Feathers gallery in Amherst, Massachusetts.

Take a stand, inspire a conversation… show that you give a shit. Are you a printmaker creating work with a social message? Hope & Feathers invites you to Give a Sh*t – a printmaking show co-curated by B.Z. Reily.

Show dates: January 17th – February 24th, 2018

Requirements:

Politically-leaning 2D prints (any type of print – including: intaglio, relief, serigraphy, photopolymer, letterpress, monotype, collagraph, mixed media).

Artists may submit up to 3 works.

Submissions accepted until January 9, 2018.

Two ways to submit your work:

1. send a JPG image with a 1-2 sentence brief description of your work (include size and type of print) to bronwen@hopeandfeathersframing.com,

OR

2. Bring your physical submission to Hope & Feathers for review. Your work will be held at the shop until curation is finalized on January 11th.

Artists set their own prices for their work (there is no price limit). Hope & Feathers will receive a 30% commission on works sold.

Please note all work must be framed. Plastic and clip frames will not be accepted. If you need a frame, Hope & Feathers will be offering a 30% discount on in-stock mouldings to all artists participating in the show.
