Our December 2017 monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 19th from 6:30-9pm at the Uxbridge Community Gallery, 5 South Main Street, Uxbridge, MA.

This is our annual Holiday Dinner. All members are welcome to attend and to bring a guest!

Our meetings cover BVAA organization business from 6:30-7:00pm and then go into the eating and celebrating.

We will be doing pot luck for appetizers and desserts, along with a catered main meal:

Porketta
chicken
Pasta
green salad
Oven roasted potatoes
Rolls & butter
Coffee

Please bring either an appetizer or a dessert to share. Drinks would also be appreciated.

Cost will be about $15 per person.

Please make sure to email in your reservations by WEDNESDAY DECEMBER 13th so we can plan both for the final meal count and for which location to use. If we have too many people to fit into the Uxbridge gallery we will instead use the Northbridge Senior Center for this event.

We will also be doing a Yankee Swap gift exchange here. You can participate or not participate as you wish. If you’d like to join in this fun project, bring a gift-wrapped gift of $10 or less in value.

We look forward to seeing everyone!

November 2017 Monthly Meeting – Pastels with Janet Schwartz

Our November 2017 monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 21st from 6:30-9pm at the Uxbridge Community Gallery, 5 South Main Street, Uxbridge, MA.

This meeting and workshop is free and open to the public. No experience is necessary. The fun of our workshops is that we all try new things we’ve never done before.

The topic of this hands-on workshop is:

Topic: Pastels
Instructor: Janet Schwartz

Our meetings cover BVAA organization business from 6:30-7:00pm and then go into the workshop part of the evening. As pastels can get a bit messy, please consider this when choosing what to wear.

Here are a selection of pastel works created by Janet Schwartz.

If you have your own pastels, feel free to bring them along. If not, we will have supplies for the group to use.

Ask with any questions!

Our meetings are supported in part by grants from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.

October 2017 Monthly Meeting – Oil Pastels with Jill Pottle

Our October 2017 monthly meeting will be held on Tuesday, October 17th from 6:30-9pm at the Uxbridge Community Gallery, 5 South Main Street, Uxbridge, MA.

This meeting and workshop is free and open to the public. No experience is necessary. The fun of our workshops is that we all try new things we’ve never done before.

The topic of this hands-on workshop is:

Topic: Oil Pastels
Instructor: Jill Pottle

Our meetings cover BVAA organization business from 6:30-7:00pm and then go into the workshop part of the evening. As pastels can get a bit messy, please consider this when choosing what to wear.

Here are a selection of oil pastel works created by Jill Pottle.

Supply Listing
16X20 drawing board Optional
Blender Bar from oil bars Optional
Metal Pallet knife or xacto knife
Gum eraser, graphite pencil
small set of oil pastels or craypas
More expensive, Senelier pastels Optional
1/2 inch bristle brushes Optional
One sheet of BFK Rives (white) or smoothish watercolor paper or heavy drawing paper
Masking tape
Acrylic Matt Medium

We will bring supplies for those who do not have any. If you have spare supplies you don’t mind sharing, please bring them along for the evening.

The Project
Here is the specific image we will be working with. If you wish to trace it out beforehand, feel free!

There are three different ways you could transfer the line drawing to a pastel-friendly paper.

1) If you have some, use carbon tracing paper. Be sure to use carbon NOT colored transfer paper. The colored stuff is waxy and will act as a resist.
2) If you have one, you could use a light box. Put your pastel-friendly paper on top of the image and both on the light box. You’ll be able to see the lines through the paper.
3) The cheap way – simply tape the pastel-friendly paper on top of your line drawing onto a sunny window. Use the sunlight to let you see what to trace.

Ask with any questions!
