Create your Facebook Fan Page – Hands-on Workshop Sun 11/19/2017

You’re an artist, and you’re looking to build your fan base. You’re hoping to make sales. Did you know that a Facebook fan page is the most important page to have, more than a website, a blog, or another form of social media? Why?

Come to this hands-on workshop where Lisa Shea will help you set up your fan page right there, on the spot. Bring your Facebook username and password so she can give you access to your page (you’ll type it in yourself).

Learn why it’s important to build up your fan numbers. Why a post that gets more likes and shares – even if it’s not by your target audience – makes it FAR more likely that your target audience will even know you exist.

What are the tricks to getting people to see your posts? What are the secrets that convinces someone to click and buy?

You’ll get a free copy of Lisa’s ebook on Facebook as well.

Come on out and take that next step to artistic success!

Milford TV Mural Project

The Milford TV Station has expanded, and they would love to have a multi-scene mural decorating their walls. They will provide all supplies and materials – the artists provide the enthusiasm and creativity. They are quite happy to have a mix of artists working on it, building it out scene by scene, each in his or her own style.

Here is a rough mock-up done by Rob O’Keefe of the Milford TV Station, to show the concept. There would be a mix of images showcasing Milford scenery along with special moments (concerts, sports, etc.) which happen in Milford. A timeline, if you will, of fun things of Milford.

Milford TV Station Mural Concept

From Rob:

“Basically, the bottom of the mural, as it wraps around, will feature historical buildings and sites in Milford. Above those sites, I have screen grabbed shots that we have captured with our cameras over the 5 years that we have been in existence.

I don’t need or expect the full mural to be done anytime soon. In fact, the goal will be to add to it each year, slowly. Right now, all I’m looking for is a start. What I’ve featured in the attached image is all I really need done before the Grand Opening which will be held approximately between the end of January or February.

Frank had a good idea of adding a consistent gradient of pattern or flowers, etc on the top and bottom of the mural to give it a nice flow, so I’d like to hear what ideas people have for that. Other than that, we can keep the concept pretty simple and I’ll be very happy.

The images I pasted together are not an exact representation of how I need them to be laid out, again, it’s just a basic rendition of the scenes I will like to see painted first.

Again, we will pay for all the materials needed and the artists can work almost anytime they want when we are open. We will also give any artists involved a nice gift at the end.”

Let us know if you’re interested in being involved!

Threaded Journeys is a compilation of fly fishing and bow hunting stories ‘interwoven’ with discussions on various issues regarding conservation, preservation, and healthy living.

The author, Tom Johnson, delves into topics about our blue-green planet and its resources that we must preserve. He argues that employing the use of our natural resources while mitigating damage to the environment is our great challenge going forward.

Johnson also weaves in a dialogue about physical fitness and awareness and how a proper diet should be emphasized in our schools and implemented into our culture if we are to succeed and prosper.

February 2018 Art-Poetry Pairing – How it Works

These instructions are for the artists and poets participating in the February 2018 Art and Poetry Pairing being showcased at the Worcester Public Library. Here’s how it works! This is our second annual show – most of us now have experience with the process.

Each artist is paired with a poet. They form a team for the duration of this project.

Sometime before December 1, 2017, the poet provides the artist with a poem. The poem can be custom-written for this project or it can be a favorite the artist already has written. The poem will be hung in the show on a maximum size of 8.5″ x 11″ piece of paper so it should be short enough to fit on that paper at a reasonably sized font. With that being said, the poem can otherwise be as short or as long as the poet desires. It can be a short haiku or a long sonnet. The artist now has until January 31, 2018 to create a work of art that represents that poem. The art can be a literal interpretation. It can convey the emotion of the poem. It can focus on one aspect of the poem. It is up to the artist to choose how to present their interpretation. That pairing of poem-plus-artwork will be hung side by side at the show.

In parallel:

Sometime before December 1, 2017, the artist provides the poet with a piece of art (a JPG photo of it is fine). Again, the artwork can be custom-created for this project or it can be an existing favorite. The artwork will be hung in a locked glass case at the library so the art has to fit inside one of those cases :). There are both horizontal “lay items flat” style cases as well as vertical wall cases. You can see photos of the cases here:

Worcester Library Cases

We have 17 artist-poet pairs so that is 34 finished works of art plus poems. We have 10 total cases. So artists should aim for the art to be about 1/4 of a case as a maximum size.

The poet now has until January 31, 2018 to write a poem based on that piece of art. Again, the poem does not need to literally describe the artwork. It can convey an emotion. It can create a story based on the scene. It can be whatever the poet wishes.

When each poem and artwork is complete (both in the first and second round), please also send a copy to Lisa so she can work on the Tetris-like logistics of seeing what will fit where. For art, let her know the dimensions of the piece when you send the JPG.

If anybody has any questions or comments, please let Lisa know.

Enjoy!
