Here are the winners of the 2016 Tapestry show, held at the Alternatives Gallery in Uxbridge, Massachusetts! The show was run by the Alternatives team. The show will be up through the end of December – stop by and take a look!

GALLERY 263, located at 263 Pearl Street, Cambridge, MA 02139 is having a juried call for art. The theme is “Iteration”.

Prospectus:

Pattern and repetitive process go hand-in-hand. An entire practice may be made of similar gestures; each mark, movement or sound informing the next. Maps and systems are connected by similar shapes and textures; patterned artworks are created through a meditative, repeated process. Each individual cell, used repetitively—iterated—can can be just as fascinating as the sum. Seeking work of all 2D, 3D and time-based media that employs pattern through an iterative process. Tapestry Show 2016

The Alternatives Uxbridge location is holding their 2016 Tapestry event! This art show is open to all artists and celebrates the richness of our community.

You can submit up to three works to the show – only the first work will be judged. There are both youth (17 and under) and adult (18 and over) categories.

A paper form must be submitted by November 4, 2016 to enter.

Pieces must be submitted by November 4th to be judged.

Opening night is Friday, November 11th from 4-7pm.

The show will also be part of the Uxbridge First Night on Saturday, December 3.

Pickup is after December 23rd. Sales include a 20% commission.

Hopedale Day in the Park -Saturday 17Sep16

We all had great fun and really nice weather at the Hopedale Day in the Park on Saturday 17Sep16

Several of our members participated in the Hopedale Cultural Council Fine Art Exhibition and we were well placed in the awards !

Libia Goncalves won first prize in the Mixed Media section for ‘Papagayo”

Bob Evans won 1st Prize in the Photography section for ‘Dream State’ and also won 2nd prize for ‘Just Resting?’

Carol Frieswick received an Honourable Mention for ‘Nightide’

Judy Belben and Don Iacovelli received a Purchase Price Awards for ‘Folk Art 1’ and ‘Pylons 1’

World Cyanotype Day – September 24, 2016

The world celebrates cyanotypes! It will be World Cyanotype Day on Saturday, September 24, 2016. Celebrate the blue wonders of the world!

Here at the BVAA we adore cyanotypes. We’ve had a number of cyanotype workshops as well as a cyanotype show. September 24th is the perfect time to create new cyanotypes!

Apertures Open-Theme Photography Show – Sept 2016

The Apertures open-theme photography show at the Cultural Center of Cape Cod has a submission deadline of Friday, September 9th. While it is open themed, there are honorable mentions being given in specific categories, so it’s wise to be aware of those.

AWARDS

First Place: $500 cash prize
Second Place: $200 cash prize
Third Place: $100 cash prize
Six Honorable Mentions will be recognized in the following categories;
Landscape, Seascape, People, Animals, Floral, and Abstract.

THEME
Open theme; anything goes.

ENTRY FEE
Member-$15 for first entry/$5 for each additional entry.
Non-member-$20 for first entry/$5 for each additional entry.
You may enter up to 20 images. Membership status will be verified. Payment is non-refundable and does not guarantee acceptance.

ELIGIBILITY
This call is open to all photographers worldwide, both amateur and professional.

RULES
Work that is copied or done under the guidance of an instructor is not eligible. All styles of photography will be accepted; film, digital, alternative process, iPhone, etc.

JURORS
Director’s choice. Please note, there is no personal feedback given by jurors.

NOTIFICATION
Notification will be done by email. If for any reason you do not receive your notification by the notification date, please check the filters in your email account.

ENTRY BY WEBSITE UPLOAD ONLY
Entry is done through Café, a web-based service that allows artists to upload images and organize their artwork for submissions to galleries. To apply for a call, you must leave our website and go to the Café website at www.callforentry.org where you can create a FREE artist account. You will add your details and upload your images to Café and then you can submit work to APERTURES.

FORMATTING
All images must be in JPEG format using Café guidelines. The image size must be no smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side at 72 dpi. Maximum file size is 5 mb.

SALES
All sales inquiries will be directed to the artist’s website.

ARTWORK DISPLAY
If granted permission, the Cultural Center will display the First Place winner’s image in our new Photography and Digital Arts Studio.

REGULATIONS
By submitting images, you agree that the images are your own work, you own all rights to the images, and you take full responsibility for the content of all images, including the likeness of recognizable individuals. The actual artwork will remain the property of the artist. The artists will grant copyright to the Cultural Center for display and promotional use.
