Our March 2016 demo will be held on Tuesday, March 15, 2016. This meeting / demo is open to the public. The meeting begins at 6:30pm and the demo tends to begin around 7pm and run until about 9pm. It’s held at the Northbridge Senior Center in Northbridge, MA.
The featured artist for our March 2016 demo is the talented Sarah Alexander. Sarah is a local artist who does watercolors, acrylics, and oil paintings, often with a 3D effect to them. She does florals, abstracts, landscapes, and much more.
Sarah will bring pieces in various states of completion so we can see how she creates her works.
Visit Sarah’s website for a full range of her images:
Blackstone LibraryThe Blackstone Valley Art Association is holding their 2016 Spring Show at the Blackstone Public Library! This library is located at 86 Main Street, Blackstone, MA.
Submissions are done online and should be in by Friday, June 10, 2016. The library has a great hanging system so your paintings and photos can be pretty much ANY size. This is the perfect time to bring out those larger images!
Drop-off for the show is on Monday, June 13th from 6-8pm. The show will be hung that evening.
There will be two receptions for this show.
The first is an evening reception on Thursday, June 16th from 5-8pm.
The second is a morning reception on Saturday, June 18th from 10-12 noon.
The show will then be taken down and pick-up is that same June 18th from 12-2.
This show is for BVAA members only. The entry fee is $20 for three pieces. Because this show is being judged, you cannot submit works that have been previously judged in any other BVAA show. That includes the Premier Art Gallery BVAA show (but not their independent photography show they had afterwards). The BVAA has its standard 20% commission for sales at this show.
We are aiming to get enough items that we can have two categories for judging – one for photographs and the other for all other work. The library has a locked case so sculptures, origami, pottery, and other forms of artwork are enthusiastically accepted!
Saturday, June 4, 2016 is the date for the Second Annual Sutton Art Festival!

The show will go on, rain or shine, so be sure to plan for this one!
The BVAA will have a booth here. There’ll be a raffle table as well!
Non-BVAA artists who want a booth of their own should contact the Sutton Public Library for more information on participating:
All the palettes have been delivered – and now it’s time for the celebration!
Alternatives in Whitinsville, MA has their opening reception for their 4th Annual Palette Show on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 4-8pm. Come vote on your favorite palette – the winners get cash prizes!
The way this show works is that all artists are provided with the exact same starting wood palette. They can then paint, decorate, cut, and rearrange their palette in any way they wish. The results are stunning!

Here’s one of this year’s images to whet your appetite – this is from the talented BVAA member Carole Plante! Who can guess what this represents?
State Senator Ryan C. Fattman is running an art contest for his Worcester-Norfolk district. Anyone who lives in the district can participate.
The theme is the district – anything representing the landscape, historical figures, wildlife, or other aspects. The art can be in most formats – paintings, photography, sculpture, etc.
To enter, send a 1mb JPG of the artwork to Benjamin.mitchell AT masenate.gov
The deadline is April 1, 2016.
Update from the Senator’s chief of staff:
The rights would be yours, and we would display the work through the year if possible. It would not be used for anything else other than display purposes. We don’t have a maximum size. We will leave it to your discretion.
The Attleboro Arts Museum has a national call to artists out for their upcoming “Patterns” show.
Submissions must be done by CD or by hand-delivering the entry. They do not take any online submissions for this show.
CDs must be received by May 13th. Hand-delivered entries must arrive between May 20-21, 2016. Fee is $18/2 for museum members and $25/2 for non-members.
We’ll be hosting a two-part hands-on cyanotype session next Sat and Sun March 5th and 6th, 2016! We’ll work from 2-4pm each day. Saturday will involve painting objects with the cyanotype fluid and some practice with pre-done pieces of paper. The objects need to dry overnight so Sunday will then be about exposing those items to the sun with leaves, gears, and other items.
If you can only make it to one session that’s fine – we’ll have spare papers both days for you to play with. If you can make it to both, you’ll be able to see the whole process through from start to finish!
Let us know if you’d like to come to one or both days.
This is one of those “might get a little messy” activities so it’s probably best not to wear your prom dress or tux ;).
