Cyanotype Hands-On Session

We’ll be hosting a two-part hands-on cyanotype session next Sat and Sun March 5th and 6th, 2016! We’ll work from 2-4pm each day. Saturday will involve painting objects with the cyanotype fluid and some practice with pre-done pieces of paper. The objects need to dry overnight so Sunday will then be about exposing those items to the sun with leaves, gears, and other items.

If you can only make it to one session that’s fine – we’ll have spare papers both days for you to play with. If you can make it to both, you’ll be able to see the whole process through from start to finish!

Let us know if you’d like to come to one or both days.

This is one of those “might get a little messy” activities so it’s probably best not to wear your prom dress or tux ;).

Claflin Hill – The Irish & Italian Summit

The BVAA, in conjunction with the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra, is offering a fun night of art and music! The orchestra provides the music while the BVAA provides the art!

On Saturday, March 5, 2016 from 7:30-10pm the Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra will be performing a show. The BVAA will have art up for patrons to enjoy before the show and during intermission.

Deadline to submit your titles and sizes via the online form is Monday, February 29th. This gives us time to determine how many panels will be needed. There’s no fee to participate.

BVAA Online Submission Form

Drop-Off for the show will be Thursday, March 3rd and Friday, March 4th from 4-6pm. Everything will then be set up Friday night so it’s ready to go for Saturday. Pick-up will be Sunday morning from 8-10am. If you can’t make that, email us to make other arrangements.

We need volunteers to help us hang the show from 5-6 on Friday and to take it down at 8:30 on Sunday. Please let us know if you’re available. There is a 20% commission on sales which will be forgiven for those who help out!

The music being performed on Sat the 5th will be:

Featuring “I –Squared” The Two Tenors
Italian and Irish Vocal Selections
Tchaikovsky: Capriccio Italien
Hardiman: Lord of the Dance

We should aim to bring the best art in our libraries, to match the high quality of the performance. That being said, if you have two great pieces and one features an Irish or Italian theme then that might be a perfect one to choose!
